There are two options for embedding YouTube videos in your blog posts. One option is using the embed code that YouTube provides and the second option is using the media embed button that WordPress includes.

YouTube Embed Video Code

First, go to the YouTube video that you want to embed and look for the embed button under the video.

Click the embed button and select your options. Check “Include related videos” if you want other videos to display after your video has played. If you are posting a video of yourself, note that this option will show related videos form everyone on YouTube and not just your account.

Enabling privacy enhanced mode will disable YouTube’s use of cookies on the people viewing the video from your post.

You also have the option to use the old embed code. I would leave that blank and use the new embed code unless you have a good reason for using the older code.

Finally, select the size or set the custom size for the video player. Once you have done this, select all the code that YouTube provides and copy it.

Go to your blog post editor. Make sure your using the HTML mode then paste the embed code into the content area where you want the video to show up. Update or publish your blog post as normal and you’re done!

WordPress Media Embed Button

To use the media embed button that WordPress provides, you only need the URL from YouTube. Go to the video you want to embed and copy the URL.

Next, go to your blog post editor and first make sure that you are using the Visual editor and that you are viewing the full toolbar. If your toolbar only has one row of tools, you are seeing the basic set. Use the “View/Hide Kitchen Sink” button to show everything.

Now its time to find and click the media embed button which. The media button is on the bottom row towards the middle and has an icon of film on it.

Type setting should remain on flash. Paste your YouTube video URL into the File/URL area. This will automatically populate the dimensions and show you a preview of the video. If you see the video that you want to embed, then click insert.

Update or publish the blog as normal and your done!
