Website Design Assessment

Whether you are a fledging website designer or a business owner, you all want to be able to make a proper assessment of how a certain website design stacks up against another. For the website designer, it is with the purpose of getting the best practices, what works best for another that might work for me, too. For the business owner, it is to benchmark the competition and perhaps to keep himself abreast with what the rest of the industry is doing. This might all be an academic exercise for an IT professional, but for many out there whose closest claim to being IT knowledgeable is being able to click a mouse so he can navigate from one webpage to another, this could be a complicated business. But website design assessment really only boils down to how a given website applied the principles of good website design. Here are some of the most basic good website design principles.

A good website design has visual appeal. This appeal is created with the right mixture of text, images, color and space in the web pages. Too much of one ingredient often ruin the broth, which is why the key here is the proper balance. It might be a subjective exercise entirely, but a consensus will always build on the side of the website design with the visual appeal.

A good website design has unique content. Content is how we refer to the message being put across by the site through its text banners, articles and images. A unique content is something that is not found on every other website. And just how do you do that? It is done by first identifying a niche, and then creating content to match that niche. Just as to succeed in business, you identify a need and then create a solution to address that need; the same principle is true with content.

A good website uploads fast. Time is gold and it couldn’t ring true enough for website viewing. Making visitors wait in line is akin to letting opportunities go to waste. You want to meet up with a prospective buyer as soon as you can. In fact, when there’s a prospective buyer knocking at the door, you’d best drop whatever you’re doing to attend to him. Websites should act in the same manner.
